Fished Sat and Sunday.. Saturday there were some Blue Runners around during the day. We had several King rods out with no luck. Wind was blowing hard.

Sunday.. Wind was blowing hard but colder. Fished ALL day with nothing until we got a few blues in the evening. Spinners were around all day

Non fishing related, but I have been hearing rumors that Jimmy passed away? He was an older gentleman that cleaned the pier in the mornings. Any info?

Yes I believe his name was Jimmy, I was told it was the old pier master. I dont know more than that except they had a memorial the weekend before last for him on sunday evening.

Went out for a bit on Saturday Monring 3-9-13. Spanish were running pretty good. I left early to run some errands.

Ok just got confirmation that it was indeed Jimmy who passed away. He fished all over that pier and was a snapper master. RIP

Fished the pier Sat morning from about 7am to 10:30am. It was a beautiful morning with a south wind at about 10 to 15mph. There were a few bait fish hanging out under the pier...a few sardines, but mostly cigar minnows....but they weren't bugging. However, if you were persistant, you could snag the odd one to use for bait. Put 3 different live baits out over the 3 hours, but not a thing around to hit them. While I was there, I saw nothing caught that I consider worth keeping. Yes, there was the odd boorunner came up, but in my book they are bait fish also! Beautiful morning of fishing :thumright: but the catching was

It was encouraging to see the bait starting to show up at the northern piers. Within a few weeks, the summer bait should be stacked in there and then the summer predators should start showing up. Can anyone say Bonito? :toast:

Lane snapper, they only have to be 8" to keep. Good eating.

so is the main difference in figuring it out the fact of it having a spot? because we caught loads of them off in boynton inlet this morning and kept throwing them back because we thought they were mangrove snapper

dont count on it... Boynton is loaded up and down with lane snapper, but you need to make sure you are not keeping an undersized mutton snapper. Chances are you are not, but after a big storm/hurricane you will be guaranteed to catch some muttons if your know what you are doing.

I'll keep an eye out for it, thanks, waiting for some of this weather to settle to go back out again, it was very rough today.

Yep, a lot of people mix up muttons and lanes. Lanes have a lot more yellow on them and the spot is bigger.

thank group for the education on the fish.
- I was on the Pier from 6:30pm-7:30pm,,, nothing
- no surfer as the surf was not big enough.
- no runner or anythings
- I do see very small baits of school in the surf, they need to grow faster ..
Now have to wait for the storm to pass by.

I got to the pier this morning and the bait is starting to slim down. A few schools of pilchards/jacks with big gogs and cigar minnows down on the bottom. My brother drops the bottom rig down with a cigar minnow. Minutes later to my surprise a 15" grover comes up on 80lb leader :D . The pier started to get a little to crowded for us so we packed up and headed to the surf for snook. We make our way down to the surf and a few schools of finger mullet are hanging around. I netted 4 finger mullet early this morning in the icw. I quickly pitch one out on the edge of the mullet school and a snook comes up and smashes it. For whatever reason it didn't put up much of a fight. Measured 35 inches.
