Nice catch! they are running now. I was on the north jetty a few nights ago when a guy pulled up a big permit on the end with live crab but I was too busy fighting a monster tarpon that took me completely under the bridge and beyond. good fight. Snook are spotty, shorts are staring to show up. ocean has been flat lately. very clear water, which seems to be good for permit up close.

The front running schools are in Ft. Pierce but generally takes a good blow or two to get them moving south of there.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Nice one on sand fleas, light line and probably a 1/0 hook.

I'm betting a 2/0 :-) My 2/0's bent so I go with 3/0's now.

Caught on a 2/0 but I got lucky because the second hook on the pomp rig hooked his tail, so he was double hooked!

I don't loosen my drag when I am pompano fishing and my rod is in sand spike. So my question is did this fish feel the hook and try to make a screaming run on a rod that had a tight drag or was it that standard bouncing of a pompano on a tight drag.boriqua187 wrote:Caught on a 2/0 but I got lucky because the second hook on the pomp rig hooked his tail, so he was double hooked!

started with a bounce, don't think the fish knew it was hooked until I grabbed the pole, then I had to adjust drag to let him run for a little bit, the line was at the brink of breaking, if it wasnt for that second hook im sure it would have.

Re: Boynton Inlet "Fishing Reports" 2013-14-15
that is so true. thats how they hit with land-based fishing for permit. when the bait is in water the line is tight. the second it picks it up, the rod tip bounces up straight the fish dont know its hooked yet. few more seconds the drag will scream none stop. ialways make sure the drag is noit too tight and my rod holder is firm in the sandboriqua187 wrote:started with a bounce, don't think the fish knew it was hooked until I grabbed the pole, then I had to adjust drag to let him run for a little bit, the line was at the brink of breaking, if it wasnt for that second hook im sure it would have.

Yep! That what we call the lazy permit until they feel the reel clicker resistance or they just sit on it and when you are checking on your bait they run. Then you have the runners- tap tap and all hell lose.
