Palm Beach Surf Fishing Reports 2010 to 2022 "Reports Only"

Post by migs24 »

It's been a while since I've hit the beach but last weekend I walked the beach throwing lures and ended up with a bunch of jacks anywhere from 3-8lbs and saw the familiar shadows creeping on the sand bar and just on the inside. I didn't bring a heavier outfit so I was forced to watch and make sure I brought my jacks in quick before being eaten. For all you beach goers there's plenty of jacks and sharks out there... If you know where to look. Fish the top of incoming, it goes dead at low tide. I made sure to got out today and put some time in and ended up 2/5 on sharks and my gf 0/2. All just casting from shore no kayak. Perfect weather all day. Tight lines.

Saw a bunch of lemons but ended catching the smaller of the group

Nice - what beach did you get these? What type of lure for the Jacks?

Right now you can probably go to any beach and find the sharks. They all seemed to be traveling north. For the jacks you could probably tie a kitchen spoon and attach a treble hook and they'll take it. Any kind of top water popper or sub surface twitch lure worked quickly will get nailed. They seemed to like the noise from poppers and it was perfect since it was mostly calm during the weekend. They're a blast on top water.

Late report.. Hit the beach Saturday morning on a falling tide. Got a few smaller jacks minus one that was stolen by lemon shark. Saw 3 schools of tarpon cruising half way to the first sandbar and all of them were smaller males trying to tag the big girl. I got one throw at a stray smaller one near 80lbs and got one jump spit and gone. Plenty of snook around if that's what you're after. Saw no bait other than whiting and croakers which are also plentiful on the break. There was also a stretch of the beach about a football field long where I caught nothing but lady fish until I got bored and tired of breaking lures off. I dont usually catch them this early and maybe the mullet run will start early too. Who knows. The start has been a little weird every year. Get out there early first light or real late in the day, if you can catch it at a high tide you'll find fish if you're not lazy and walk.

Im in heaven when the mullet run starts early. The snook and tarpon are still lingering around the beaches and it just makes it that much easier to hook up. Can't beat a frisky mullet. Got my fingers crossed.

Lin are you talking about the lady fish being everywhere or the snook?

The ladyfish were everywhere and the snook were hammering them. I only got one snook that night with artificial. I should have thrown a ladyfish back down.

Lizardfish. If they grew to 75#, no one would be able to swim in these waters. I've had 8" lizard fish hit a 12" plug.

Staple shark bait on a long liner... The shrimp boats catch them ALL the time...

Was on a remote stretch of beach as I walked a few miles just to get to a favorite spot just south of the Palm Beach inlet. Lost two fish to sharks, how that can happen is quite surprising - I thought that only happened out on a boat. Maybe it was a big cuda, but on one occasion I got only the head (hook still inmouth) back of a pretty big blue runner. So I chopped off a chunk of another runner, threw it in to fish for whatever shark was out there...then nothing. Seems they're a bit picky. Oh well, it was fun, but I also swim in that spot. Not this time.

Hit the beach and inlet for a few hours today. was beautiful out but nothing was biting. threw several lures and seen a few guys shark fishing but nothing came in or hit any baits I seen thrown in.
Plz put back the small ones.
