There is a difference between being dumb at fishing, and just being on the bottom of Charles Darwin's list of natural selection.

That was funny when Ricky told me...lol I was like what? Don't forget the guy walking down Long Key driving bridge with a cup of what might have been beer. He marched on with no care in the world.

Re: Googan Report
Lately on pompano pier I have seen a lot of googans getting snagged to the bottom so what do they do you ask?? They lean the rod on the railing and grab the rod just below the top guide where the rod is thinnest, they then pull hard and the tip of the rod snaps off due to the pressure, then they begin cursing and wonder how the rod broke, instead of how us pier rats do it, rod over our heads while holding down the spool and walking away, it was rather funny seeing these googans

Re: Googan Report
Have to report myself... Tossing my 'new' cast net in the canal yesterday after watching a guy the day before doing it in near the same spot and my first cast half the net gets caught up on something. I end up wading waist deep into the canal only to find out it gets very deep very fast. In the end I end up having to pull it and rip a good 2-3 feet of netting along the leads. Looks like I'll be trying to repair it... Still cringing every time I think about it.
Also was fishing within 50ft of the dania pier this morning on the beach... Another guy was fishing right next to it so I didn't think anything of it. Someone from the pier yelled something to the guy but I don't think he or I could make out what it was. It wasn't until the lifeguard that came on duty let me and another guy know the general rules. Sucks lifeguard come on duty at 9am here... they didn't come on until 10 am in Jersey!
At least I can laugh at myself

I got mine hung up this week too. I lucked out though and it came off without a tear. The older they are the easier they shred.

Yep, happens to everyone. I got my new Betts hung up in Jupiter Inlet during the middle of the mullet run at about midnight, I had a few in me so I decided to swim for it, I forgot about all the sharks that like to call that inlet home.Green Tide wrote:I got mine hung up this week too. Re: Googan Report
not to mention getting caught in the net, and going down for the count.
There were some people staying in the water way after dark when we were at the fire works display at sombrero beach. I guess they thought sharks don't go to the beach.

Heres one from over the summer
Juno Pier 7/22/11:
I see a guy wearing reeeally expensive clothes, carrying a Walmart-special, Saragosa 4000 on a decent custom, and a Zebco pushbutton. He puts a big 'biki on the saragosa , manages to snag a pilchard in the gills, then puts it out on the Walmart-special.
The rig was:
Straight 12# mono, rusty longshank 5/0 J and a 4 ounce.
He snags a Loggerhead and locks up the plastic reel, uses the railing with a spinning rod, and breaks the handle off the reel
The turtle swam away with the rig in its fin

Re: Googan Report
Today while at the Naples pier there was one family that was hilarious.
They were using the bait of choice... Squid, and caught a little 7 inch sand trout on a tiny hook.
I ask them if I can use it for bait, but the refuse and insist that they will make good use of it.
The man leaves the hook in the fishes mouth, casts it out and says that he would catch a shark with it, lol.
The bait eventually freed itself from the hook and he kept telling me something big took it...
Go figure
