Scored a double on the pomps today. Wind was blowing hard out of the NE. They were catching some good size baits at the front, but nothing was hitting them. Saw one guy get a 16" or so mutt. that was it for me. 50 rods in the pomp zone was just too much.

Got a limit yesterday afternoon. The bite was on fire from about 6:30 to dark. Spring run is in full swing.

Went Sunday morning in between rain squalls managed a couple and this unexpected guest on my pompano rig. Was 22in and was released unharmed.

Yeah, it is my first and probably last snook caught on a sand flea. I was quite pleased that my dropper rig held up to the fight.

Snook on fleas is not that uncommon

I've seen an occasional mac on fleas, but had no idea that snook like to chew on them.

Went out this past Saturday for the last of the pomp season. Not much happening saw a few stragglers come thru, but for the most part pretty dead. Looking at the cam today even the Asian guys have called it quits for the pomps for this season. Well there's always the snook to look forward to.

Yep can't complain, the season was good this year. I have enough pomps in my freezer to last a couple months now. I'm going to be switching gear over toward the snook now. Good to hear you also did well this season.

Built a DIY sand flea rake and was dying to try it out so this afternoon I parked south of the pier about a mile and made my way to it. Found some nice fat ones but noticed they were mostly alone, I'd only see one set of hug antenna and got most of them that way. All off the bunched up ones slipped through by 1/2" hardware cloth. Anyways, in about an hour I have 30 or 40 so tried them around some local canals for sheep's. They produced one 14" and two 12" that I threw back to be on the safe side, plus undersized grovers, and all the grunts I could handle. This was my first time using a rake and can't complain.

Fished the outgoing tide on 5/31 from 7pm-11:30pm. LOTS of pilchards around the pier. My buddy lost a snook that after it took the bait immediately wrapped him. Other than that slow. Three decent hits to other people fishing the pier and one guy caught a slot snook prior to 7pm.
