Went to Anglins yesterday Spent the whole day out at the tee. Ballyhoo were pretty thick all day, with a few schools of gogs that were easy to bug. Got one short mutton in the morning. Saw 5 macs come over the rail(one was mine) got cut off twice. My buddy got a 19" red grouper free lining a gog. At night the ballyhoo were still around with some big threadfins under them. I got 2 nurses both on butterflied gogs unfortunately. Got an 18" Grover on a live ballyhoo on bottom. Got rocked by something that ate a little live grunt I had out. There were a few bluefish being caught also.

It wasn't the best day out there, but it beats being at work. I hail from the golden State myself. I grew up in Oakland to be exact.

Fished today from 430am to 930 am. Caught about a dozen undersize snappers of all species(Yellowtail, Mutton, Mangrove) The bite was hot from 6-7 then slowed down. A few guys next to me were catching the same but also caught a few small grouper. Further down the pier it looked like most people were throwin artificials trying to get the mac and blue bite going but I only saw one mac caught and it was small enough to fit in my fish tank. One of the guys next to me said that earlier someone caught a big king but I didnt see anything. And as usual, I fed alot of bellies while going threw a whole pack of shrimp and squid and lost my usual 10 Dollars of Tackle. Untill next time, Tight lines.
Heres a pic from the morning.

I have heard that they are not good at all. Saw someone fillet one once and the meat was dark and looked like bluefish.

I believe porkfish are a type of grunt so they should taste ok.

However porkfish are regulated under ornamental regulations. The minimum size is 1.5 inches but have to follow the following regs

Current (as of July 1, 2009) Requirements for Recreational Marine Life Harvest:
■■Recreational saltwater fishing license
■■Organisms must be landed and kept alive
■■A continuously circulating live well, aeration, or oxygenation system of adequate size to maintain these organisms in a healthy condition

fished this AM from 6am till about 7:30, planned on staying longer but work was calling. I managed a 20inch spanish and a 37inch king, both on blue yo zuri crystal minnow. My personal shorebound best. I would like to thank those that helped round up and drop the net & Tommy for lending his larger cooler for a few... Pic is on the way. Current was pulling South, wind was west less than 10mph and water had great color with a few ne swells still rolling along.
