Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2010 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished Saturday 6-1 and Sunday from 7-12. Caught runners, cuda and one snook (cutoff) on Saturday. Sunday was a lot slower and one mangrove saved the day. Bait is still as thick as it has been for the whole month.
I got to see several interesting things. One was a 6' manta ray, very cool. Another was a 4-5'ish foot tarpon hooked on medium spinning tackle, amazing how fast they can spool the reel. The guy next to me caught a Bluespotted Coronetfish, colorful and really odd looking. The strangest sight was some bonehead catching pilchards as fast as he could catch them, dropping them on the deck until he had 30 or so then stuffing them into a Publix bag and then going back for more. When he left, he had two bulging bags of tasty, sunripened pilchards. Is there some exotic recipie I haven't heard about?
Since I'm still learning about snook, I have a question. Do they school up under the pier? I've always seen them single or in pairs, but today I saw 20 - 30 very large fish under the pier about 1/2 way to the Tee.

Fishing is not a matter of life or death, It's much more important than that.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2010 "ONLY REPORTS"
Hello,
Had a quick question. The fish that are usually under the pier or close by the T that are reddish/brownish hue with white noticable spots and black on the face by the eye with vampire like teeth (two that stick out of mouth) .. are they mangroves?
Wasnt too sure last time I saw them, thanks for the info.
I asked someone on the pier and they said mutton snapper but muttons have always seem way lighter in color to me, and it was missin the black spot by the tail.

Thanks Zebco, hopefully I'll get one 10 inches next time since I never seem to catch the elusive 12" triggerfish lol.

I don't doubt it, but will they school or are they solitary?Zebco wrote:There are far more Snook than you can see around Dania.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2010 "ONLY REPORTS"
fished yesterday from 0730h-1200h, clear water, nice calm seas, caught a couple of blue runners and 2 spanish macks. the macks stayed much of the day on the south side of the "T". i was tossing a crappie jig / 8#test line on a cheap 4' or5' shakespeare rod, then this huge tarpon like 5-6 feet slowly tracked my jig and swallowed it
then it run away towards the beaches. it was pulling my line so fast and hard,at first i wanted to fight this thing but the sensible part of me kicked in and i pulled my pliers and cut the line. That night im still thinking, what if i landed that tarpon on an 8#test line, boatless,on a cheap shakespeare rod, even on a crappie jig. i know the odds are against me but isnt that how records are made? defying the odds, making the impossible possible? i could have let that tarpon strip all the line that i have,at least i know he beat me...so next time it happens to you dont chicken out like i did, its better to go home with a nice fishing story to tell knowing you gave it all than going home with your mind full of "what ifs?"

Funny stuff on piers sometimes.
Yesterday,... Runners, Macks, Ceros and smaller Spanish. Lots of small size mangroves and a few keeper Muttons. When I got there yesterday, nobody was inshore at the time. All fishing around the T. Gazillions of bait on each side, Snook solid in them. And no people. I'd have rather fished than work.

My family of twenty are coming from China. They want to try fishing since they see pictures of my catches. Zebco, what is the best rig for them to catch Blue Runners? People said a popping cork and others said gog sabikis. What do you suggest?Zebco wrote:Lot of Runners. And a few SNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOKSNOOK

The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Otherwise, the norm,.. live bait, little jigs and such. If I try to catch them for for real to unload at the market, I just throw my 5/8 Croc and blast them 1 at a time.

Re: Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2010 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished from about 3pm till 7pm. As many small blue runners as you could possibly want. Bait was thick up and down the pier. We met Tyler (Get the net). We only caught blue runners. I had 2 snook mouth my pilchard and spit it out. Get the net will post a pic of a nice snook he caught for sure.
I saw a couple of nice mangroves come up close to the tee, a couple of macks and of course the blue runners.

was out there yesterday. sick storm that passed over and gave for a nice view.

Went around 2:30pm, bait is thick at the tee and the bluerunners are aggresive, macks were around so were snooks. A few snappers under the piling and some muttons.
