I love this place..just south of ft. myers beach and the water is much cleaner due to it being further from the river, just a few more miles makes all the difference. Anyways here is yet another...

Those sailcats are great eating. .....seriously nice white flaky meat. I used to give the fillets to friends and wouldn't tell them what it was. Many prefered them to grouper and snapper.

so I hit Laishley in Punta Gorda today again. Right off the bat, I nailed a 13 mangrove. Caught two more keepers along with a bunch of shorts. I sent out a ladyfish I caught, and about an hour later...

the pier is a little crowded on weekends. I was there last week and spanish mack, jacks, some huge blue fish were being caught. Lots of bait fish swimming the pier. use a sabaki rig. it takes about 30...

We'd like to fish from the beach down there, maybe afternoon and into the evening. Where are some spots that this is possible/legal? We tried at the South end of Boca Grande, at the park, but didn't...

No problem,I believe 8th street does the rest you just pull off to the side.If you have a truck you can just back straight up to the guard rail.

PM snookmook - he knows quite a bit about the west coast.

In general, the ocean off of sanibel is rather calm and clear. Consider a 7' spinner or similar plugging rod and some topwater lures along...
