Monster Ray

Post by Mildbill611 »

Caught this beast from the shore. Thirty minute fight. At least 5ft long, and 3.5 ft wide

I have heard of folks using cookie cutters and slicing "imitation scallops" from the wings. Never tried it though, I always throw em back. I have caught many large rays like that over the years and I will say, they put up a much better fight from shore. From a boat they just tend to stick themselves to the bottom instead of trying to swim away because they feel the pull from straight above.

depends on the ray... That one is fine. The one that you have to look out for is the spotted eagle ray and the mantra ray. There are probably a few other protected one as well.

I heard that as well, and tried it once with a medium stingray I caught in the Keys. Tried it once is the key word. Tasted nothing like scallops, instead it tasted like nasty stingray.

Was watching that show bizarre foods and the guy said it was good. he was eating a cow nose or something and it looked exactly like beef. It def wasn't a nice looking white fish filet tho.
