Wabasso Bridge-Sebastian Inlet 02/04/06

The Mornings were good at Wabasso bridge, alot Pompano on Jigs and alot of Bait fish to be had for the Inlet.

Sebastian Inlet
Sharks, Red Fish, Snook North Jetty
Pompano and alot of them, also some door mat Flounder are still around on the south jetty.

It was a nice weekend except for the rain, little nippy.

Remember if your fishing this area wear or bring warm clothing and a rain suit it is a hard time to fish with the weather changing every other day.

yea your right, you can not have enough jigs in SI.

its is a great place to fish, takes time to learn there ways because it is different fishing to here. We always have a good time, I am supposed to be up that way around Orlando the weekend of the 19th and I will more than likely stop by and also Flagler Beach, Ponce Inlet, Hobe Sound on the way back at least two of the four for sure.

Are the jigs you're using bucktail? And what weight? I'm going to be down that way in late May ( I can't wait!) and I'd like to tie some up if the Reds will still be in. I've got a bunch of chartruese/pink (electric chicken) already tied that work great in the carolinas. I've caught everything from flounder to reds to albacore to macks on them. What colors typ. work the best there?

Yes Bucktails White with red tail is my favorite, I have used solid white and a black bullet head jigs thats good to.

1 to 3 oz depending on wind and current, you want to work certain depths on a even level, the fish seem to only feed on specific levels you may need to work them all to find them.

You can bounce or raise and drop your tip on the retrieve if the steady retrieve fails. You never know what will work, I find the steady retrieve is the most consistent for strikes in any Inlet and that is why I start there.

That's quite a bit heavier than I'm use to using from a jetty. It's no wonder that you guts loose so many! I'd say it's hard to keep them from burying up, but you've gotta use what works. . . . .You are just fishing from the rocks? Or are you fishing from a nearby pier or bridge also?

I do have some 1 to 2 oz. in the red/white already tied and you can bet they'll be in the bag!

One other thing boatless, I'll be staying in Ft. Pierce/N. Hutchison Is. when I come down. I'll definitely try to get up to SI one day, but where are some good place's to hit within a 15 minute's drive??? I've heard their inlet has good fishin' too. I guess the same jigs would work there also? And do you think Pompano will be around on the surf in May/June? Everyone says they're delicious and I'd like to try a fillet or two or three. . . . .

S.I. is a Hard inlet to fish because of the currents in and out.
South jetty Pompano and Flounder some snook, North jetty Reds"bulls", Snook, Tarpon, Snapper"mangrove", Sharks and some Pompano on beach side.
Fishing Bridge at SI Snook, Reds, SHEEPHEAD is the fish I catch alot off of the bridge they don't hit they pull so when line goes taught crank into it and allow the fish to hook it self on the run away. I use fleas on a bottom rig. (It is very imortant that you take time to watch other fisherman at SI it will help you to fish it) that is the best advise I could give you.

Fort Pierce Inlet you have two parks.

and on the south it is Jetty Park I have caught more fish here on the south side.
You can get away with a lighter jig here also the inlet is much calmer.
Use Lures too around the Inlets Rapalas and Bombers work well.

Fort Pierce has been getting some Snook, Sheephead, Flounder, Trout, Blues and other lately.

Beaches around the Island are good also.
and yes there should be some Pompano around this area. More if cold fronts are still pushing this way south, last year I saw Pompano late into the summer months because of late fronts.

I didn't find a "jetty park" on the map but did see a South Causeway Park which is located at the bridge going over to the island to the south of the inlet. It sounds like the same place.

I prefer the artificial to the bait especially when I've only got an hour or two to fish, but I'll use either. I noticed you use the X Rap. I don't have any of those but I've got plenty of jerkbaits from old bombers to lucky crafts. I'm sure one of them will do. I'd absolutely love to land a good snook while I'm there.

We are staying on the beach, so I do hope the pomps are there. Do you ever use a small jig for them or just sand fleas, ect. I was wondering what colors they prefer? Do like the red and white also?

I would assume that there are bait shops close by to both parks. Any you like or dislike more than another?

Yes I fish for Pompano with a jig and sometimes tip the jig with fresh shrimp, I don't use fleas on a Pomp rig unless I am takeing it easy. Color I find that work good are Chartreuse, Pink, White and that is the order that I like them.

I think you will do well from the surf at that time of year.


This park maybe the sameone that you mentioned.
Check this site it mention South jetty Park the pier they refer to is the jetty itself, I have never seen a pier there as in 1200 feet that would be a big pier to miss.

Just go to the state and select the city you want I was amazed at the data they had put together on B&T's.
