Busy fishing weekend

Post by Ken+ »

I did a bit of everything this weekend (plus this evening).

May 3

Finally kept a steelhead on the hook with this little spoon. Switched out the factory single siwash hook (since I missed 2 fish that day already) for a treble I took off another spoon. And voila!

A lot of post-spawn fish now...including this really beat up hen. Her fins and tails were damaged from redd digging. I actually felt bad catching her. I don't want to harass any more post-spawned and weaken fish, so my steelhead rods are officially hung up until fall.

May 4

Went to fish the nuke plant with Richard again. This time the water was really murky (probably due to the south wind the day before). I was lucky to catch some Freshwater Drum including these two beauties!

With two days of sun, I was wondering how the Bowfin spot was doing. I figured the shallows could be warm enough to attract the 'fins in their pre-spawn state. Sure enough, they were there today. I fished for 1.5 hours and in the end lost 2, landed 1 and spooked 3 others while I was presenting the bait to them. I was a bit rusty since I didn't get to fish for them much last year...so it has been a while.

I thought this Common Carp was a Bowfin sitting in the fallen branches. It is around 28-29"...so probably around 10lbs.

After losing two bites, I finally managed to pull this one out of a pile of branches and prevented her from running into other snags. She was bigger than she appeared in the water when I was stalking her.

Not much to read on the blog since I'm pretty tired and didn't write much on it...but you can visit the blog to see a few more pics.
