Surf Setup for Lauderdale?

So I just moved to the area and am looking for a surf setup. I've dug around for info here, but still am unshore what to get (weight- and action-wise).

I'm looking for one setup now to do the majority of my long-cast surf fishing. (I've got some shorter rods on their way to work artificials close to shore.)

I'll mostly be fishing Lauderdale, with occasional trips to Jupiter and Stuart. I'm targeting fish to eat, but am only marginally familiar with the species down here. Guessing Pompano, Snapper (do they catch them from the surf?), Blues, etc., but if there's other stuff to target that warrants a bigger/smaller setup I'm all ears.

Given what I've read, seems a 12' Medium or Medium-heavy rod with 12-15 pound line and spinning reel to match is the way to go. I haven't cast a baitcaster in 10 years and can't imagine myself throwing one 50-100 yards without making a bird's nest big enough for an Albatross.

Does this sound reasonable? Overkill for summer? Too light come winter?

Well I know we have a good pompano run right now and the beachea re ight up( early a.m)

In the summer tarpoon, snook, snapper, cuda, jacks and others inahbits beaches and not to much great eatign unless you love sting ray wings which i've heard is amazing and south florida has some amazing ray fishing. Also shark fishign is great from the surf.

I agree with previous post the ocean master from bass pro are nice rods i ahev some myself and there magic.
ugly stick would be my second choice and get a baitunner, spheros or spinfisher for a reel all three quality great drags and medium priced.
