Woahhhh... man I just live rite around there and I love watch the drunk people dump there cars in the docks and get into fights while I spend my Saturday reeling away... I don't mean too get into an argument and I don't either have opportunity to go all the way up to Broward to a pier and I wish I could but my ride ain't that reliable. And if your offended of me fishing at black point

okay guys I know I may have took it the wrong way but I know mangroves where you can see them and if its a slot or not I just wanna have fun and do the rite thing and release'em I'm just a rookie to this type of species of fish and also walk the flats.

I was at pier 60 a few weeks ago there were snook swimming around the pier all day long, looked like you could walk on em. I threw my whole arsenal at them but nothing. Tied on some 20# flouro and tossed live shrimp, live greenies, live pinfish, cut bait, squid, gulp shrimp, top waters and gotcha plugs. Now I never used a live mackerel for bait because that would be against the law , but one time when I reeling one in I happened to drag it past some big snook and they weren't even remotely interested. I mean I know they're picky but damn give a guy a break lol. Anyways no useful info there just ranting, pretty sure the snook bite turns on right after I pack up and leave

Always... Keep in mind, fresh water will ALMOST always be warmer than salt water, with some exceptions of course, I believe in fluid dynamics it is because of its density, also, fresh water tends to be shallower and have more sediment which traps heat radiation as it does not reflect it right back into out to space. With all these factors, add to it the variable of baitfish ALWAYS stacking at spillways due to them being nutrient rich (usually where fresh water dumps into salt water you end up with all the nutrients from the whole body of fresh water being deposited at the mouth, or delta)
I am not sure if it works the same way with canals as it does with rivers, however my guess is yes, to a degree... Ok I have wondered way too much into the scientific side of it, I apologize... Yes spillways hold food, which in turn hold snook, and they tend to be warmer on the fresh water side, so they seek shelter. During the day, the fresh water warms up a hell of a lot quicker than the sea water, and snook like a toasty 76-78 Degrees water, anything in the 50's is a KILLER for them, however they can tolerate up to 100 degrees just fine... Something to think about next time you target them, the water temperature will tell you if they are feeding or sluggish, ie what to use for bait, live shrimp or live fish.
snook trends to go to backish water and/or water that has mud bottom in the winter (cold) because mud hold heats. So if you find residential canal with mud bottom... that's where you'll find snook in the water time.
Think of any type of fish just like a human being. If you are too cold or too hot, you just want to survive first... stay warm/cool... then when you feel better than you start to find food to eat and such. That's why sometime you'll find a school of reds/snook stack on top of each other but will not eat at all during the morning/evening. Try that same spot again in the afternoon when it warms up a bit and you'll get them to bite.
