...So I've already invested in a head mosquito net. Are there any bug sprays that are preferred over others for these things? Do you guys where long sleeve shirts/pants (sweat pants or otherwise) to help combat this? The last thing I'd like is to fly 1000+ miles and undergo all this planning only to see it go up in smoke because of a few bugs

Summertiime prep for bugs in Mingo... posted on another board

put 100 percent deet on skin...ALL AREAS esp. under arms and on ears...running shorts under long pants...yak shoes then old cycling booties...thick neoprene spats that wrap around feet and ankles

top...dry fit shirt under columbia fishing shirt covered by long sleeve white cotton tee

head...cotton dew rag to cover ears (I found out it keeps the buzzing sound out too which is as bad as bites) cap (bill under and over sprayed with deet and then bug net)

hands...full finger neoprene paddling gloves and I could use them to cast...problem is bug stuff washes off hands

then spray all over again with regular Off with highest Deet content

seems like a lot of work but able to fish in peace for a couple hours

If the bugs are really hungry (as they are in really remote areas) deet will not work, but other than that I find that it works in most situations. The only 100% way of stopping the swap angles is 2mm thick cloths. The probostis of the mosqito is a little shorter than that so anything that thick will work. I like to use a shirt and my waterproof rain jacket and neoprene golves. The only problem is that its so dam hot that this technique will only prove workable on breezy nights.

Those bug suits work great and since its netting you don't get as hot as when you try and layer up thicker then they can bite. They are expensive though but I guess whats money when your talking about you getting mascaraed and ruining a fishing trip.

Just remember, when you feel the heat kick in that is when you know the poison is working.
