Marco Island House fishing

Post by onelrab »

First I want to say thanks for the creator of this forum. I'm new and appreciate the info. :bounce:

I'm going to be renting a house on a canal located pretty close to an open waterway to the ocean . Can anyone give tips regarding bait, tackle, technique, and speceis of fish that I will find in the area end of May beginning of June. Particularily for snook. Any info will be greatly appreciated. I will provide a report and pics. if successful.

Thanks,

OG :reeling:

Loads of snook along the beaches there during the summer. Tough to find live shrimp big enough but lures will work fine. The summer baits should be on the beaches if you really want live baits. As far as lures top waters do well at first light and sunset. Soft body jigs worked parell to the shore are your best bet. Most of the snook overthere are under slot plus they will be out of season so 6 - 10 lb spinners with some 25 - 40 lb leader is all you need. Other species will be around the summer baits schools as well to include mackeral, tarpon, trout , sharks, snapper, ladyfish, and various jacks.

Fishnfool: Does the same apply for fishing from a house dock as fishing from the beach?

Thanks,

Would depend if there was current there . If there is a jig is fine or a lipped plug works well.
