Naples beach Snook fishing this summer

Post by Captain Paul Wolter »

The beach Snook fishing has been pretty good this summer, althought I wouldn't say it has been GREAT. There have been lots of fish around starting as early as April this spring, but many have been seemingly smaller than usual and a bit more tight lipped than in past years. I have no idea why, as I can't really form a solid correlation between their mood and mood/tide/weather cycles. Thankfully, the few guide trips I've done on the beach for Snook have gone well with up to 14 fish caught in a 1/2 day....whew, what a relief!! The key has really been to use a lighter than usual leader setup, and very small flies. There have also been some big Jacks around in the mornings up to 10lbs, but you have to see them coming from a ways off because they move through FAST. The last few days, the flow has been more onshore, although light. Early morning storms have hampered fishing a bit due to the storms themselves, or simply blocking out the light making for tougher sight fishing. The fish should hang around in pretty good numbers through October, then start to slowly trickle off as temps drop! I also post occasional fishing reports on my website www.paulwolterfishing.com and my blogspot blog which you can check for updates. I would also be more than happy to fill you in on current fishing or water conditions if you shoot me an email. Go get em while they are still around!
