Re: sanibel and captiva island
Stayed at the Sundial Condo resort in building A from 6/20/10 thru 6/25/10 at Sanibel.
Fished the beach in front of building A every day with my brother in law Andy from 6:00AM to 10:00AM. Fished with 1/4 ounce DOA nightglow shrimp and bucktail jigs all week and I only caught 3 snook.
Caught two snook on the DOA shrimp between 8:30 and 9:00AM on 6/24/10. All the snook were hitting about 35 feet out from the shoreline and closer.
Hooked the third snook on the DOA around 11:00AM on 6/25/10 and was about 18 to 20 inches long. Had my nephiews son wind it in. It was great fun to watch. My nephiew took a picutre of his boy with the snook but don't have that picture....yet.
One morning the baitfish were so thick right on the shore line big snook literally swam across my feet feeding on the baitfish.
Didn't measure the two I caught but one looked to be between 28 and 32 inches and the other may have been 32 inches or just over.
Andy caught two nice snook.
I guessed the one he caught on 6/22/10 to be 36 inches or longer.
He was bouncing a 3/8 ounce white bucktail jig.
He caught his first snook on 6/21/10 using the same bucktail.
All the snook were released unharmed.
Even though the fishing was slow it was great fun just knowing these big rascals were out there and could take your bait at any given time. There was a breese in our face every day and some mornings there was a lot of floating grass that kept getting on the lures.
