Summers here and I ain't surfing

Post by Da Luii »

At last summer like weather is here,
Calm flat mornings & breezy rainy afternoons

This calls for a Yak fishing trip
Let’s meet & fish you guys, we don’t have to travel far, let’s keep it close. Maybe off the beach’s of Pompano, Hollywood, or even Lake Worth. The Snook are upon us…

So where to this weekend???
Someone hit me up.

Luii,
Yak Attack, Me and a couple the Lake Worth Boys hit it a couple days in May with pretty good success ( Dolphin, Kings, Hogfish, Lesser AJ's Runners, etc...) Homelife will demand my weekend attentions for a while still, so I am grounded for at least another month or so. Get with Yak and he will fish with ya without too much arm bending. I will catch up by mid summer !

FISHING

Post by Yak-Attack »

Yo Luii, I will have to see if Sunday is cool, I was fishing all last Sat at the DOA tornament and the wife watched the baby all weekend  I might need to wait a week. But I'll email you when we decide to go again. I also want to do some trips up to the Indian River in Jensen Beach. That place is so cool.

I'm new to the yak fishing game. Can you park at the Silver Palm boat ramp in Boca without a trailer? I always thought Lake Boca should be good fishing. Has anyone fished there? How's the fishing? I'd like to get together with some of you all some time.

Silver Palm boat ramp - is that the one on Palmetto park road? If so, yes you can - after you unload - park under the bridge. The ramp is guarded all the time by rangers.

Boca Lake has got some good Snook & Cudas, you'll also have fun catching all the runners you can possibly want especially on the North East corner by the Coast Guard Rib.

A lot of boats out there today http://www.lakebocacam.com/

Caught some Snappers up against the west wall in the past.

Plus I enjoy the easy paddle out the inlet. Hit me up anytime you wana go. I live in Deerfield and that’s one of my most frequent spots

Thanks Da Luii

I live 15 min from the ramp, in east boca. Maybe I'll see you there. I use an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 ft (orange) w/ a milk crate and cooler in the back. With the longer days I may try evenings or Sat or Sun morning early. Off shore a bit sounds good after I get a bit of experience. I need alot of practice and advice. That inlet gets a bit busy and thast sounds a little bit risky.

Tight lines

Dude, that is one SIC inlet IMHO.....Blazing current at times and far too busy, but hey, WTF right...

Nice meeting you Saturday ( Briefly ) Just curios, why did you guys hanf so close to the pier in lik 20-30'?

I ended up wit a few snapper in like 90', but other than that it was a slow day....I had a live 8" Blue runner freelined on all damn day - Wired with a stinger.....He swam up and down the water column and was trolled over the 80-120 dropoff REPEATEDLY all day....Totally unmolested. I was really hoping for BIG Wahoo, King or Sail....:(

Dave( FORDHAMRAM) had a similar story with his runner .....Sometimes the best days for yakking ( clear, calm and no current) are not the best for fishing......Lack of current kept things slow IMHO.....Unfortunately when the current to the N Picked up at like 11A or so is when the bite turned on, but it was time to start the long paddle S. back to the Pier to load up. We just parked it behind the driftboat that drifted over Horseshoe reef and let em chum em up for us....

yeah sorry for the brief hang, I guess I'm not much of a talker when I'm hangover  I was out the night before at a friend birthday party till midnight, :? knowing I had to be up at 5, What a dumbass.

can't say boca is blazin especialy compared to other inlets around here like Boynton, Hillsboro or Port Everglades. I guess I've scored some easy paddles. Plus timing with the tides help

I knew once we got out to 80-90 when the finders were exploding but my lines weren't, that the current & tides were not on our side! When we all made it out to 140-160 and it seemed to die I figuered I'd head in closer back to 80 but nothing. Then closer in to about 40 & still nothing, then I spoted some birds circling near the pier & saw bait balls so I figure I'd go trow something into them, but still nothing. before I knew it, back at the pier & got a nice sized runner trolling, got my hopes up. then i spoted 3 Big Tarpon cruisin together. I trew everything i had at them but they were full I guess. better luck next time.

still nice to get out & meet a few new friends.
if Sat looks to be like this past one I'm heading out at Pompano out to the third reef.

ya, lack of a current was a killer in the AM. Bite and current picked up just before I had to go....

I am out for a couple weeks ( mid july anyway......)
I am sure you and Y.A. will do fine out of pompano

Oh ya - Been there on the hangover paddle as well - tough stuff :)
