need help? weekend fishing in orlando

im gonna be going up to orlando for the weekend with my school where we are staying there is a big lake in the backyard.
its gonna be pretty dam cold over the weekend, how ill this affect the bight?
also what are a couple of lures or plastics i should by at wallmart tonight?
the most bass fishing ive done is in the everglades once with live shiners, i dont think id have a chance to buy any but do you think i should use small crappie type fish for bait? freelined, or under a bobber?

You would be better off grabbing some shallow diving crank baits...... If there is a BPS near or around you go there and ask a employee in the lure dept for some help... I have never caught a bass on live bait..... come to think i have never tried. Artificial is just too easy for me to even worry about buying live bait.

Down here shiners are like candy for bass, it is too easy. You can get a bucket of shiners, go to just about any body of water in S. Florida and you are guaranteed to catch largemouths and peacocks. I only use them if I'm with someone who doesn't fish often or kids and want to get them hooked up ASAP.

I guess that can really be anywhere then. I have just never tried. For me..... Its too easy to just tie on a crank bait and let it do work. nothing better IMO than watching a hungry fish attack a top water crank bait or something similar. Its what makes fishing so exciting for me.

For sure. The biggest bass I've ever caught was at night, sneaking onto a golf course. There was a full moon and I was using a black jitterbug when an 8 lber crashed it about 15 feet from shore, I honestly thought a gator had hit it.

Ha Ha ..... golf courses have great fishing lakes... most of which are never fished. You could throw a beer can tied to the end of your line and they would probably hit it.

That must have been a great fish.... i guess you dont have a pic? My fiance and I each got a 8 lb this past summer..... Biggest bass i have ever caught..... well hey we are up north a bit and their growing season isn't what it is in the south.

If i was you i would get some senko worms from bps and some worm hooks. hook right through the middle. let em sink all the way to the bottom and reel a little and sink again. i caught many 5lbers doing that good luck.

I would say probably a range between 3-5 inches max including any lip. I would not get anything that dives deeper than a few feet..... get the floating kind not sinking. The lip should not be too big.... the bigger the lip the deeper it goes.... normally the packaging of the lure will tell you how deep it goes. Personally i stick with Rapala's however other brands do just fine as well. I personally stick with a bait fish looking type lure. dont get hooked yourself with extremely bright colors. The natural colors work just fine for most any fishing you do.

Catfish .... thats your prerogative. If you are bass fishing from shore i wouldn't stay in one spot long.... A few casts here and there and then move down the bank to a new spot. Bass love structure in the water. If structure is available try and fish around that. During hot days they sometimes tend to find shade depending on how deep the water is..... again i am unsure of the spot you are fishing so that might not be a option.

With fishing lures as such i like to vary the retrieve a bit.... you can just reel it in and that works at times.... try fast and slow...... i personally do a faster retrieve with a twitch on every revolution of the reel.

i went up to orlando as a chaperonage for an 8th grade class trip to universal
(big mistake, annoying little bastards )
we rented out houses in kissimee there was a small man made lake behind the house and another 2 down the street.
first thing when we got there i cast out a plastic worm texas rigged and not one hit, the whole time. i fished the other lakes that day and saturday night and tossed everything in my bag with no takers, i didnt even see one panfish guppie or minnow anywhere but i did see a bunch of baby alligators so i figured they must be eating something, but then i thought about it and figured momma was also probably close by, so i dipped

thanks for all the help everybody i think ive got a good feel on how to use those plastics after seeing them bounce around in the water. hell, maybe ill take them to the beach and see if the snooks will bight
