Jacks is open 24/7. I have hit out there that early and they have had live shrimp. Not the biggest but live shrimp. Crabs..Last couple of times they havent had any. You might hit the Yellow Bait house in Key LArgo but dont know what time they open. Thier is a bait shop in Islamorada at the weight station that I have bought crabs from and the owner is good people but I think they open around 6:30 or 7. Might hit out thier Sunday with the family. Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

I don't think its a lane, look at the distinct pink color on the lower part of the tail.

at that size the body shape and prominent dot is defined on a mutton..
If you look at his pictures thier dots are blotchy and not defined..

Everyfish that you catch will have a diffrent array of color
some having more red or more yellow... Dont let colors fool you..
This will happen more on juvinile fish... or fish in deeper water..

Even at 12 inches a muttons dot is smaller and more prenounced vs. lanes bigger blotchy dot... it is no questions..

Lanes body shape does not compare to a mutton

The body shape, Anal & Caudal fin is more of a give away than any color patterns ...

I call big lanes..

Hey Cubanaso be sure you measure those snapper VERY closely. The FWC guys in the keys do not play around and will slap you with a big fine so fast that it will make your head spin. I actually had one of them almost pull their gun out on me for walking in front of him with a bait knife in one hand and bait in the other (I had not noticed him). I first thought that he was not talking to me but I got the message loud and clear when he started yelling at me to drop the knife with his hand on his gun and the gun almost completely drawn from the holster.

i dont understand why poeple are always complaining about other people eating small fish... if he wants to take the risk so that he can eat them leave it to him if he gets stopped hell regret it but he is going ot put the fish to good use .... in his stomach so lay offf

Is there a brain in that head of yours? Do you know why there are bag and size limits on fish? Snapper are already one of the fish that are in danger for their lower than normal numbers. If you take them to early they don't have time to have babies. It's people like you with no conservation sense that make us all look bad.

This should help you stay out of trouble with the law.
You dont want to get fines or lose your tackle cause of some basic rules.

Thanks Linsider for this post. This is the proper way to address this issue. When it comes to education being nice and having a positive attitude goes a long way towards educating some one.

Because it is against the law and he posted it on a public forum that LEO's do regularly visit. Shorebound fisherman should especially be very aware of the laws because of the fact that we have such an incredibly substantial impact on the juvinile fish populations.

Yikes.

Post by FriskyMullet »

It looks like there are a ton of undersized fish in the cooler. Thats $250 each and if its over a certain amount you go to jail. Every fish needs to be measured and the small ones should be released as gently as possible from a tall bridge. Are those undersized snapper really worth the money and risk? Additionally if you keep them when they are small then there is no chance for them to get big so we will all be doomed to catch Micro snapper.

I was there with goblinshark when the thing with the FWC happened. Man that was a sticky perdicament.
