Channel 2 this Saturday

Is anybody gonna be hitting Channel 2 this Saturday during the day? Hopefully the current dies down a bit. It has been ripping thru there lately.

i bow down to anyone that can point me in the right direction for fishing channel 2...

ive tried different methods & setups but have never had great trips there..some decent ones but none memorable lol

Channel 2 is the same basic setup for fishing as most bridges in the Keys once you figure out how to fish then the where comes into play get both of these down and you are cooking with Crisco. Heres a tip Look for areas that have eddies and the breaks in the current and that is where the fish will be out of the current saving energy. Never cast against the current and you will not snag as much use bank sinkers they tend to hold bottom better than eggs. Fish alot on the slack tides as the fish will take advantage of not having to fight the current to feed alittle more. Short leaders 1-3 ft. also tend to snap less as they don't flop in the current as much......enough freebies some may disagree with me but these have worked good for me.

fishnfool...thats exactly the way i fish the bridges and frankly its the best way ive found also(after 2 years of hitting them up consistently)

however the species i have the most problem hooking up with is snooks & cudas down there...but ive never really fished the corners which is were ive been told snook hold...hopefully next trip down ill consentrate more around there.

I am logging off now but hit me with an IM ( so I don't forget) and I will drop you a few tips on the snookies and any other questions you have.... I won't give up spots but once you can fish one bridge you can figure out how to make it work on most of the other bridges.

I concur on the above mentioned advice. For cudas also you want to fish for them early in the morning with thin wire. They start getting there around 4:30 to 5:00 and this 30 min window is when you will catch the big boys but after that all they do is chill. Live bait free lined on light wire and pray.

Oh and I do better at night time and in the morning. None of this fishing in the sun business for me. lol

If you want to get cudas on a pier, just keep a heavy stick rigged with a 5/0 on heavy wire while you're pompano fishing and if anyone gets a fish cut in half, put the head back on and drop it back down right away and hang on.

Just got back from Channel 2. Fishing was ok. Water was real clear. Pulled out a ton of undersize snappers and one keep of 15 inches. The cudas and tarpon were sick but couldnt get them to bite on anything. Live shrimp free lined, blue runners free lined, cut ballyhoo, grunts, only thing I didnt throw at em was the kicthen sink. Weather was great but on the HOT side. Met this cat that gave me some live shrimp and ice and asked him if he was part of the forum, he stated that is why he was checking out Channel 2 based on the info from the forum. Word is getting around and its great to meet other members and share the knowledge.

Those are the cuda's I was talking about. They only bite early in the morning. Thats when they first get there. They will only bite the thinest wire and only at dawn. After that they just sit there and taunt you.

Cool pics, that water really was clear...those cudas are challenging, the only time I've gotten them to bite during the day was during a cold front when there were literally over 50 of them stacked up, and they were smacking a tube lure.

I get them all the time with tube lures. When they are not hitting, try during the tide change, it seems like they become more aggresive just before, during, and after the tide change. Also don't give up, even when they are not hitting, you'll still get a couple of them to hit, it has happen to me many times.
