Long Key Bridge report - 4/28/07

I took my Mom and wife to long key bridge to wet a few lines. Armed with a few dozen of shrimp and fresh mullet. We got there as the tide was changing.

Never seen so many huge tarpon in my life. Must have been easily a hundred or so swimming thru the area.

As soon as we found a spot and got settled. First cast I caught a decent hogfish on a live shrimp. We caught one keeper mangrove snapper and lots of grunts and nice sized jacks. Not sure of the type of jacks, they had yellow tails. They were all too big to make the vertical climb to the bridge. I guess this is where a "bridge net" would come in handy.

The people next too us hooked up with some jacks and small snapper and grunts. Did not see and big fish being caught during our short stay.

Over all, we had a great time. This was my first time at Long Key in over 10 years.

Yep, probably crevalles, there have been schools of them there for the past 3 or 4 months...might have been yellow jacks, have caught them there too though.

I hear you about the tarpons Saturday. I was at Chan 2 thick with cudas and tarpon but no bites.

YEs, I believe it was a jack crevalle. Its been so long, my fish ID skills are not what they use to be.

Some guy and his girl anchored right under the bridge in their boat and were tossing bait at the tarpon. Didn't see them get any takers. It was almost like they didn't care.
