Bridge bouncing in the Keys 05-03

Post by fishnfool73 »

I headed to the Keys with my buddy Marcus and one of his friends after work on Thur morning. Hit the bait spots and loaded up on mullet and pinfish. Hit a couple of bridges looking for some permit saw some fish but no takers. Loads of tarpon swimming around but nothing during the day to speak of. Once sunset came around nailed the grovers pretty good wound up with my limit biggest was a 5.5 lb monster followed by a 3.5 lber along with some 16 - 18 inch fish . Tried to hit the muttons after sunset but gave up after the sharks would not leave me alone. Landed about a 30 lb bull and lost 7 more to cutoffs including one that dumped my Trinidad 40 of about 300 yards of 50 on a locked drag before he bit me off. Stuck around til 3 am playing with some more grovers and tarpon then headed home. Both my buddies limited out as well and we threw back alot of keeper grovers 10 - 14 inches trying to cull out the bigger fish . Big fish of the trip was an 8 lb. cubera caught by Marcus's friend on a live shrimp on a med spinner that thing worked him. The tarpon, snapper and sharks were on fire but the permit were to busy spawning off shore. Overall not a bad trip . Pictures coming on Sat. maybe.
