Advice needed on what to spend my money on

Ok, I got a $150 gift card I need to spend at bass pro. Right now I have two reels a Penn 4/0 and a 6/0 both spooled with 100 pound powerpro. I want to catch a decent sized hammerhead really bad but I also would like another rod and reel so I can bring family and friends fishing with me. Basically I'm caught between buying another rod and reel combo with a 6/0 for $159 so I can take people fishing or upgrading my 4/0 to a 9/0 (also around $160) for the hammer.

If you guys think I could land a decent hammer with my 6/0 from shore than I'll buy the extra 6/0 with rod. But if a hammer would spool my 6/0 than I guess I'll move up to the 9/0. Or maybe I'm way off base and even a 9/0 would be spooled, I've never caught one so I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.

With 150, I'd opt for the 9/0, get it while you can......you can always come back and get cheaper stuff later As far as taking people with you???? Well, put out what you have and take turns....thats what I do.

GO FOR THE 9/0 IT WILL BE THE BEST WAY TO SPEND THE MONEY.ONE OF MY SHARK RODS IS A 9/0 SPOLLED WITH 100LB MONO AND I HAVE CAUGHT BIG SHARKS ON THAT.I WOULD JUST TELL YOU TO UPGRADE THE DRAG WASHERS TO THE OLD SMOOTHIES,ON EBAY.THAT UPPED MY DRAG FROM 23LB TO 46LB.i HAVE A 6/0 WIDE I USED TO USE FOR SHARKING WITH 100 LB BRAID AND I DIDNT LIKE IT.I WAS IN THRE KEYS SHARKING AND GOT A NICE HIT,GEUSS WHAT CUT OFF.MONO CAN TAKE MORE AND IT HAS STREACH VERY IMPORTANT.YOU WILL JUST NEED A NICE ROD TO HOLD THAT 9/0.

So does the 9/0 have a heavier drag than the 6/0? I thought it just holds more line?

the 9/0 holds more line and has a better drag we tested the drad at captins harrys before the swap it maxed at 23 lb after 46lb.i also run heavier line than that reel holds.should olny have 50lb mono i have 100lb mono.but works like a horse never a problem.

every one will have some advice for you.buy what you thing you will use on other types of fish if you dont go for shark as much.9/0 is still a great reel for the price mine takes a beating from the sand and salt,but i always clean and grease them and keep them running top notch.i would hate to loose a nice shark because of my lazyiness in taking care of my equiptment,and new ones have been built better and can be used on other big fish as well.just go through after some big fish so you know its working at peak.always keep em greased and cleaned.

So, the 9/0 has the same drag washers that you upgraded your 6/0 to? Why did you not like the upgraded washers in the 6/0 seems like it would perform like a 9/0 but with less line?

I did my 6/0 as well,but you cant hold 100lb mono on a 6/0.
