gator is too whippy

I trolley alot and my gator t90xh is way too whippy to effectivley throw 8 oz, would it be a good idea too cut like 3 inches off of the tip.

Not sure just how whippy yours is..... one thing I noticed when I moved down here a few years ago was just how whippy all the long rods were compared to those that we used at Hatteras to toss 8 and bait..... can't say that good distance is not achieved because I have seen a few that can put it out there.... but I bet a good hatteras rod in the same hands would toss 8 even further....

Now two points to consider..... Kings have a notorious soft mouth and a stiffer rod would probable result in a few more pulled hooks and the biggest point is the soft rods along with 30 lb line keeps the 8 oz from snapping off on the cast ( most of the time ) .....

That is why we ALWAYS used a shock leader of at least 50lb mono to prevent crack offs among other benefits.... If I was to let er rip with some of my hatteras heavers and only 30 lb line I would crack off the sinker almost every cast....

get a rod blank thats rated for 8oz or more..get a fast action blank with a stiff backbone like a calstar or a seeker..

that gators a bottom rod not a casting rod espessily 8oz..
something like a calstar gf900m or gf 900h would be much better
