Strange sort of rod I saw

Recently there was an advertised yard sale with a ton of fishing gear. As expected, most of it was very old stuff, stored in the garage for quite some time. I think the gentleman had run a bait/tackle type store, since there were a least a hundred poles and a dozen small tackle boxes plus three full tables of lures, hooks and assorted items.

One of the poles(no reel on it) was short and very stout. It had a tiny pulley on the end instead of a regular eyelet type. There were large sturdy eyelets along the body but one near the bottom was also a small pulley.

I'm kicking myself a little bit, because it was only $5 and I should really have just bought the thing. But I thought maybe someone here would know something about it?

Pulley? You mean a roller guide? Very common for heavy boat rods.

Def not. Probably a deep drop or sword rod. Kite rods usually one have one guide at the tip and not a roller guide.

Pose's is spot on here. Kites go up, so roller guides are not practical. Sounds more like a deep sword rod. Could very well be used for trolling as well. That guide configuration is still pretty popular on heavy higher end rods.

And yeah, for 5 bucks it was probably worth it if you have a way to use it.

did the top roller guide swivel also side to side?? dam even if not those guides alone are 20-75$ some of the older hard to find even more..

Thanks to all the responses.

The end one was fixed in place, a little pulley/roller. The one closer to the butt end was also fixed in place.

It seems that they aren't having a yard sale this weekend, unfortunately. If I get a chance, I'm definitely going to try to get it, just because it's really neat looking.

sounds to me a stand-up fighting rod for a big game boat fishing...
