Phenix Axis HAX-720XH

Finally able to do some wrapping again after being on sabbatical for over one year. I went with a new Phenix Axis HAX-720XH blank, Fuji components, and a simple fade wrap. Paired it with an old school Daiwa Sealine 400H for some grouper digging.

What kind of material is blank made of? How long is the blank? Looks great!!!

Well Phenix is known for quality. Their blanks are imo even better than calstar and no doubt right up there with St Croix or Lamiglass.

Their blends for example inthe titan series are just flat out unbeatable IMHO

The finish is stellar the handling the whole construction is awesome

The blank is 7'2" and rated 30-80lb. It measured closer to 7'4" once the build was finished. I chose this particular blank because I was curious if the S-glass material would cause it to have a more moderate bend--which I prefer when bottom fishing. Over the past two years my main grouper digging stick has been the Phenix PHD760XH. While it is insanely light I also found it to be very stiff and pulling on fish with it in deep water was taking a toll on my aging back. I have yet to hang a big fish on the Axis (just finished the build last week) but plan to put it through the paces this coming fall and winter season.

How is Axis HAX-720XH compared to PHD760XH?
PHD seems made of carbon woven with Kevlar...while Axis is of carbon and S-glass FRP.

I have 12ft very stiff rod made of carbon and titanium...Blank diameter is thin but I don't like much...too stiff.
I am looking for long ( at least 11ft ) rod with moderate bend and strong back bone...

Do you know such thing?

For surf fishing?

Lamiglass hands down. Go on mudhole and check the saltwater series.

Lamiglas tend to be moderate in feel but to cast a county mile just the right thing. Load up lile a champ

I'm a big fan of Lamiglass rods and have owned a few but as Ronnie said don't forget to check out St. Croix. They make some very sweet lightweight surf rods. In fact, I'm just realizing St. Croix would be my first choice if I was buying myself a gift.

Per your recommendation, I bought 10' St. Croix 2 piece surf rod about 2 month ago.
And I put stradic 8000.
So far, I caught about 30 fishes 1 ~ 7 LB. I found myself putting more trust on this rod everyday...
Very good recommendation !!! Now, I want to try permit when I have time to go to south.
