penn 550 repair help!

Trying to help a friend out,


He gave me a penn 550ssg (china one) that appears to have seized up and also the bail rotor is loose, apparently was left with out cleaning. When I got it, trying to loosen the handle,. It got unstuck and handle began to spin but that’s it , I then removed the housing covers and was able to get the handle to spin and now the shaft moves up and down as it should, but doesn’t spin, looks like the pinion hasn’t come up since the bail rotor is completely off, my question also, is there anther way to remove the handle?? I cant free it since its loose, one my options I think is to hold the main gear down and freeing the handle……an ideas?

Have you tried the nearest dumpster or trashcan ? I'd check with a local shop to add if they can help.

Wild guess here without seeing it, but sounds like the rotor nut is lose or gone.

the shaft only goes up and down does not rotate , take the rotor off and check the clutch 98 and 98 c the bearing in there might need to be replaced to make it spin freely . as far as the handle go and get some marvels oil and soak it

In other words. 38 couldn’t be tightened, 19 was pushed down, but I got it, was able to free 19 and got it all working! Thanks for the help guys
