Your post is bs, to be honest. I was there. Had nothing to do with us. The guy who went and took his fish "because", the canadian took his fish. Period. The rod got hit and a friend went and reeled it in. The canadian had been casting his lines everywhere else, but in front of himself. So, his line was wrapped around in the line with the fish. When the fish was flipped. Mr. canadian went and took the guys fish and threw it in his own bucket. After "I" told the guy, named "Barry", he went and took his fish. He is not a commercial fisherman. Want to question me? I was there the entire morning. Also, we "commercial fisherman" do not just load and leave. We all left for various reasons. We are not there to wipe out the ocean. We leave that for the recreational poachers. Which I did see one there. Now, as for what was caught till noon, while I am here,... approximately 35 Pompano, and I saw 4 mackeral. Anything else told differently is not the truth. Fishing slowed at the high tide.

PS. you all should stop with the fibbing. I have seen a bit of it going on here. I read reports where I fished, and never were those amount of fish caught.

Damn, I missed all the action.

I was there between like 7-8 I walked the shore line and that was a joke with the wind.

I walked the pier just to take a look around, there were plenty of people fishing. I was the one wearing booties if anyone saw.

I was referring to this vets how could I tell,all custom wraps on the rods. All were fishing the south side midway down.

the loading up I mean that they find and catch more than regulars ok so DON'T TAKE OFFENSE I know a couple of commercial guys and they help me and I help them .

Dania Pier Report 21 Dec 2006 afternoon session

We made a stop at Anglin's B&T for some more of their nice shrimp. No need for hand selects, the sizes have been pretty good. Rick said they will be open Christmas day.

Got to Dania, and the water had an ugly color, that chalky pale thing that it does, and the wind is blowin pretty good. Oh well, we're there, we're gonna fish!

We took my friends 8 yr old daughter, in town visiting her Dad, so dropped a chum bag a little past midway, put a shrimp on a bobber, and let it go. We wanted to make sure she would catch something, even if only bait. Boy, were we surprised. Was only a few moments and she's hooked up with her first of several nice macks the three of us caught this late afternoon session.

Did not really try too much else today, tossed a gotcha a bit, and tried a light jig with a shrimp. The wind did not want our lines to sink, so a bobber was about the only way to go. Split shot above the shrimp to get it down. We ended up with 6 for dinner and freezer.

Others were caught, but the chum seemed to really draw them into us. A couple other hookups were lost, one angler dragged from the T inshore and never saw what it was. Can not report on anything other than what happened in our vicinity, since we were there for her to catch.

For me, wind takes the fun out of fishing. I want to toss light artificials, small jigs, etc. NOT an easy thing to do lately. So have had to resort to using live shrimp on a weighted float.

Cookinman... tried your beer batter recipe, made "fish sticks" and the kid loved 'em. So did we, of course I spiced ours up after dredging hers in plain flour. Thanks!

There was a guy from across the pond fishing. Check out the equipment he lugged out onto the pier. They sure do things different over there. He told me he can cast about 300 yards. That's 900 feet, boys and girls. They rig quite differently also. Interesting tactic he also used, "bait elastic" to wrap his fish body plugs after hooking them. Said it keeps their bait from getting dehooked, and it was an interesting tactic to put into my arsenal of unusual fishing techniques. He was fishing 8 lb test on those long sticks. One was easily 15 feet.

Here are this afternoon's macs we kept. Had some early releases also. I have cropped the photo because I forgot to ask permission to put it up, and this adorable young lady is 8 years old.

That's my Dania fishing report for this afternoon until dusk, as I remember it.

We were next to him, and I chatted briefly. Did not here him bad mouth, and we had an 8 yr old with us, so any inappropriate language would have been noticed, and most likely something said, politely.

He showed me a couple things they do "across the pond", the way they hook their bait, and than wrap a thin elastic around it. That technique does have some merit.

We were catching macks next to him, and he could not figure out why we were and he was not. He tried to mimic our technique (bobber, shrimp, split shot), but used his whitefish baits because he had no shrimp. The bobber was really large, he added weight to it, just a bunch of stuff.

Since they are more civilized in England, perhaps fishing has evolved into a "look at my equipment" type of sport. But some stuff common there is not popular here, the large bottom weights with feet for holding are an example. We lean out rods on a rail, while they have fancy stands that span about 6 feet, and rods longer than 15 feet very common.

His only "mistake" was not being friendlier and seeking advice, or noticing our chum bad and fishing the other side where it was flowing. Because the chum is what brought in our macks.

Too each his own. As for his wife, well, ummm, errrr, I'm old enough to know better than to go in that direction. Besides, somewhere, there is a person who would think the same about yours. Some judge others by appearance, others by who and what the person really is.

And as far as I'm concerned, and knowing she is worth 430 million pounds (English money) and owns a castle, well, darn if I don't think she's beautiful too.

JUST KIDDING about that last sentence, but judging a person on appearance and vocalizing an opinion is something best left unsaid.

Anyway, as I said previously, his equipment is bulky and cumbersome, he did not catch anything while I was there, and so what. I learned about a couple things to do with fishing, and a technique that may prove useful one of these days. So I am a better angler after meeting the guy.

Saturday 4:40 pm

Dania Pier report:

Arrived at the pier after a stop at Anglin's B & T for live shrimp. They will be open Christmas day for those needing live bait, etc.

The inshore section was loaded with rods. Pompano angler's were out in force, and finding a spot would be near impossible. There were Pompano caught.

We tied off a chum bag and fished shrimp on floats. Much less wind today, still tough to toss arti's, but we were late arrivals, probably 9:30 am.

I did catch a couple macs, and happy now that I have a couple fish and several meals in the freezer.

Saw jacks, macks, pompano.

It rained. Pretty hard for awhile. Got soaked. The wind dropped off and the waters calmed. Yahoo, I was able to start comfortably tossing artificials after what seems like a long hiatus.

Was catching some jacks, and also skip jacks and leather jacks on a crappie grub tail.

Walked to the T after the wind died down to see if I could make some tosses from there. After all, there were only about 7 anglers. But there were over 30 rods lining the rails, (3/0 or larger), plus many smaller outfits, etc, most soaking bait. I'm guestimating maybe 50 outfits on the T. Just too many for the number of anglers.

My friend put yesterday's (still fresh) mack head out on a bigger reel. It got took, hard. Never saw the fish. Put out another one, and when it was brought in before leaving, he'd missed a bite. The leader cut clean through. So two mack heads weighted on the bottom midway to the T fed a hungry predator today.

Again, the trash cans were missing. In front of the B & T, seems the city is responsible for cleaning the pier, etc, and the guy doing it is not doing it right. He has not put the trash cans out on the pier. And there is plenty of trash. A shame says I, a real shame.

FWC came out for a stroll.

Still no bait presence to speak of.

Current running north. The chalky water a little better today.

That's my fishing report for today, as I remember it.

Yes, there are some. In shallow, as you first get on the pier, and a couple more a little further. Go past the middle to the T, and there were not any today, or yesterday. They were sitting near the Bait shop, empty, ready to be used, but not on the pier within easy reach or a short walk from anglers.

What good are they if an angler has to go back near the bait shop to use one?

Sunday morning Dania Pier Fishing Report 12/23/2006

Up well before first light, we grabbed our gear and headed for Dania. Stopped at Anglin's B&T for some chum and live shrimp.
They opened a little earlier than usual this morning.

Got to the pier, and decided to enjoy some coffee, and wait for dawn. My buddy and I put out a total of 3 fresh mack heads (yesterdays) on short wire.

During the session, two of the mack heads got taken pretty good. No idea what ate them.

Put out some chum.

The cloudy water was much better today, still cloudy with limited visibility. Layed down nice, was able to toss arti's. But we had live shrimp, so tossed them out on floats. Fresh mack belly strips also produced.

1/0 circle hook, short light wire tied to 20 lb mono leader, tied to 8 lb test.

Caught plenty of macks, more were lost or missed, even gave a few away. A crappie jig also produced. I did not see any caught on Gotcha's, and Xraps. Several anglers were tossing them.

The chum brought in ballyhoo's and hooked some for future snapper bait.

Saw macks, jacks, runners (One went a good 4 lbs), and an assortment of reef fish. I did not see any snapper, grouper, or pompano. I did not venture out to the T, I prefer to fish about midway out.

Had plenty of action for my tired old bones. The expected crowd of Pompano Anglers did not materialize, and it was a lighter than expected crowd today.

Trash cans were distributed after dawn all the way to the "T".

That's my report for this morning at Dania Pier, as I remember it.

Same Scenario at Anglins - Gotchas were useless Saturday. They were all deeper - Jigs of all types did well.

Merry Xmas morning at Dania Pier

Macks, Pompano, Jacks. That's what I saw caught.

Windy, the water clouded up again. Chum did not seem to draw in baits.

Birds were a nuisance today. Gulls diving on baits, and also attacking jigs. Bobbers with a shimp or strip getting pulled out of the water by the wind, unless weighted heavier than I like to weight mine.

I lost one fish, a bunch of baits, and landed nothing. (I don't count skipjacks)

A big mack was landed. Some good pompano. Also some larger than normal jacks.

That's my Xmas morning report. The Goddess of Fishing did not smile at me today.

headed out to dania pier this morning. first time ive been on a pier in a while. not much to report i caught one mackerel on a shrimp on a float and a couple of undersized snappers.tough fishing conditions today. it was very windy and the water was cloudy. i saw some jacks caught, a few mackerel and a small bonnethead.

I thought it was "rockin" on Sunday, did real well on Macks with live shrimp on a bobber, and crappier jigs. Others did not fare so well.

There were Pompano today. There were mackeral today. A nice 5-6 pound Spanish just a few feet to my right. A pompano guy did OK on the T. He went down to the surf area usually fished for Pompano, and a few minutes later, the south side of the T was "crowded" with Pompano fishermen. hehehe.

Current was running north again today.

Too bad "The Goddess" did not smile on me today.

Would sure like a lot less wind for awhile.

... There were only 10 Pompano caught that day. There were a few guys with the day off giving it a shot on the T along with the Wen the chinaman. No other Pompano guys at the pier except me. Not much caught that day besides "some" Macks and a few Jacks. The conditions were perfect for fish. But, the majority of the fish are further south.

I thought the weather patterns and past few days worth of "stir" in the Ocean would make for decent to very good conditions also, but did not see them myself since Saturday....

Hopefully this little cold blast we have today brings a few more in for you guys!

Wednesday Morning Dania Pier Fishing Report:

Arrived just before first light, and only a few anglers were out. It's a nice feeling to arrive at an uncrowded pier.

Bundled up for the weather, wind blowing cold. We both wore hoodie sweat shirts and windbreakers, and kept them on until we left.

Set up our location, and after daylight deployed some home made chum and began fishing.

YES, I made some chum. Had an old blender that was in my home when I moved in. Came home with almost a full box of previously frozen sardines a couple days earlier, and since they'd been thawed in the iceless cooler, decided to blend them into chum. Added some water and oatmeal, and ended up with a very unappetizing shake. Froze it in 3 smaller containers.

It worked great. And when it was "gone", there was minimal residue left in the bag, unlike the commercial chum at $5.00 /box or more. Brought in ballyhoo's.

Fishing live shrimp on bobbers, xtheline nailed a nice Mack. And another nicer Mack. If it had been a snook, it was slot limit. Measured almost 27 inches from the fork, and fat too.

I started catching as well, and we decided that we both had more than enough for the freezer and meals. Released quite a few, and the ones that were damaged too much and might not release well, we gave to others on the pier not as fortunate in catching.

The freezer is now officially closed for mackerel.

Had plenty of followers on a gotcha, but no hits. Same with white jigs. Put on a pvc float with two home made feathers trailing, and had a monster follower on the first cast. Ran out of room. Second cast had a nice keeper. A couple more casts with plenty of followers, and than lost the rig. My crappie jig was difficult to work today because of the wind.

It's always a cool feeling to catch fish on something self made, whether painting and tying a store bought plain lead jig, or tying feathers or bucktails to a hook and trailing it behind a commotion maker teaser.

Current running south today, wind from the northern sector.

The larger macks seemed to be holding outside of casting range. But the favorable current and wind did allow them to be reached on a cast and drift, once the "pattern" was figured out.

Saw others catch Macks, and a few blue runners.

There were plenty of macks, and some big ones. Spent too much time retying today, even using 3-6 inches of light wire & 30 lb leader on 8 lb test.

Several times, macks crashed the ballyhoo's in our chum slick close to the pier. A few even went airborne, and many times there were followers when a mack was brought in.

They were hitting live shrimp, fresh belly strips, and small slender white baits similar to glass minnows. A float was the preferred presentation.

A couple bigger baits, mack heads, on the bottom, got hit, no hookups there.

The big mack xtheline caught bit a hole in the pier net. LOL

nice! send some of the mackeral up the coast to juno...Juno has been dead for a solid 2 weeks now...an occasional lady fish or blue....no macks, no jacks, nothing fun...and definitely nothing in big numbers like it looks to be down in dania.

went today...was 1/9 on macks (couldnt set the hooks due to the huge bobber making the fish spit out the bait when it felt pressure)

Didnt really bring the right tackle and bait,so i had to due with what i could manage.However the dude next to me was tearing them up using croacker or sand perch? and sardine's...nothing outside of macks being caught from the time i was there 11-2

try a small circle hook and a short piece of verylight wire. The bobber/cork will help hook the fish.

OR....light line and a small gap longshanked hook if they are seeing the wire.
