The night went on and tried to get bait only a few pilchards, a goggle eye (1), and a few pinfish on sabiki. We tried the casting net but only a 10 inch mullet was landed.
We had a few rods out including the 9/0 with a mackerel carcass. Using cut pilchard plugs I caught a bonnet head but lost it while gaffing it. With the same plugs something hit my line on my 30lbs test outfit (why the heck not on the 9/0?), had a nice fight for a bit then all of a sudden a freight train started going and I burned my finger. I locked the drag and fought it some more, I tried getting away from the poles but lost the fish at the utility poles anyways.
The morning came and we started to see macks in groups of 3 to 5. Around 8:30 am I put out the mullet on a trolley rig with some wire the big macks would come by and not hit.
We started to use arties then gonesharkfishing' caught the first one on a white jig I think, a nice 3 pounder. Crabman got the second mack on a green crappie jig but lost it waiting for the landing net. Sharkman954, Jonhny blaze, and their crew who also caught some grovers earlier started catching a few macks as well (nice seeing and talking to you guys). Most of the macks we saw were over the 3 pound range. Then everything came to a hault the macks got real shy and stopped hitting.
Later on almost at mid day I changed the mullet from my conventional rod to one of my spinning rods and free lined it. I had another spinning rod with a cork and shrimp all morning with no success then I changed the shrimp to a belly strip and WAM! Got swallowed by my first mack of the day. I swang it over then crabman did the same on his rod and then a mack train hit my bait ZZZZZZZZZZNNNNNNNNNNNNNN SNAP! POP! Another mack followed the train and swallowed the float. Shortly after another mack train, gonesharkfishing' got to the rod before I did he almost sets the hook I said It’s a circle hook! and handed the rod to me. It was the mullet I was soaking all day with no success then ZZZZZZZZZZNNNNNNNNNNNNNN and
ZZZZZZZZZZNNNNNNNNNNNNNN it came down and I got it to the brige but since the wind was kicking we had trouble getting the landing net under the fish until crabman and gonesharkfishing' swung the net pass the fish and were able to get it in place. The train was a nice 6 pounder mack. We left shortly after.
