Re: Florida Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
Lauderdale by the see
Current moving south, 8 to 10 ne wind, water clarity so so--We need more wind fish gods
Lots of small schools of glass minnows going by the pier this morning Bookoo Big Runners with some Spanish slashing them, poor things couldn't even get by the Pier alive it was just a wall of death for the little guys.
Pilchard spread out along the trough very thinned and in 4 inches of water they weren't as brave or dumb as the glass Minnows
Couple of tarpon picked up bottom baits, couple small sharks, Jacks and saw more Spanish Macks around then yesterday

Re: Florida Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
yesterday(8/27), ICW fort lauderdale, in Oakland bridge, I saw a pot of finger mullet...
the night (8/26) before yesterday, I saw snook was chasing some bait...I wasn't sure.
But I confirmed it was pod of finger mullet.

Re: Florida Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
while i was jogging yesterday i saw big schools of white bait heading south of the newport pier getting worked by birds just past the sand bar....closer to the surf there were tons of small minnows...went to the icw and saw plenty of stagnant white bait and sporadic mullet (resident it seems). most bait i've seen moving so far.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
So today had two smallish size resident pods of mullet to the north of the Anglins Pier the furthest one was hammered all day by Snook and Tarpon the schools joined up mid afternoon and came to the pier and then turned around and headed back north and we will see Saturday morning if they stayed all night.
One pod was to the south and meandered 500 yards with nothing in them.
Bonitas, Spanish Macks, Jacks, Tarpon, Snook and Sharks have all been moving up and down the beach, seems like anticipation of the smorgasbord that will be here soon enough.
So this behavior is typical couple of weeks and things should start to happened I don't believe it will be after October, heck maybe sooner.
TO the NORTH
Mullet are getting thicker in Sebastian, some fingers but not tons most are 8 to10 inch Black Mullet and it is starting to move there, plus with the mullet that was at the cape and before that Daytona. I would think from what I have seen in past years this is the very beginning for them . Not to much has happened in Fort pierce since a couple of small pods trickle out a couple of days ago a few more through the night but nothing in larger numbers yet.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
The pod of mullet on the north side of the pier did move south past the pier at Sun up with a few snook and 6 to 10 tarpon, it is now just south of the pier 400 to 500 yards south meandering. I don't think they will move to far south and may very well make there way back. Thats what they do as it begins
Our resident mullet are confused the current is going North and they want to go with the current but they know its not the way they are suppose to do, so they go one way until some fish push them back and go the other way until some other fish push them back the other way until they get smart and move with the dark and the current south or just the current.
We also still need to see some sardines and pilchards moving south.

Few big balls of white bait on Jensen beach area. Birds going crazy, but only tarpon were on them. Bath tub beach, unknown pods to far out to tell. About half football length , moving south, Water is dirty, stir up, bait on the outside of the dirty water getting nailed in each pod.

Good report and good catch.
So we need a little bit of cold day and they will come down...
I am wondering if there is any mullet gathering in Jupiter Inlet.

Re: East Coast Mullet run 2014 Reports ONLY
North is it, we won't see mullet in bulk for 2 weeks or so maybe a storm will speed it up lets hope. We will have our small schools coming by each day with fish just no big pods.
Remember I said 1st week of September Fort piece goes off GET READY, Sebastian see's alot of mullet but Fort pierce some years is unreal the amount that flows out. I still think the fishing is better at Sebastian Inlet
Thanks for the report Raul

Bait is thick in cocoa beach since last weekend, this Friday I headed out there in the evening and hundreds of jacks were busting on the mullet at points... Mainly small mullet like 3-4 inches with a couple school of bigger baits moving through. Run started really early this year? Hopefully it lasts long...

Lake Worth pier early this morning. Bait balls right on the surface, on the south side only, they were small 2-4 in with dark brown backs. A few snook were harassing them. Not the usual pier summer bait...

Hit the inlet 11pm. Signs of pilchards, dead ones on the bank. Fished last of the incoming with no takers. Seen no mullet. Did see Snook in some lights. Camino Bridge was packed elbow to elbow, as it is every year on this night.

I was at the inlet last night, got there at around 6:30. The tide was flowing out and there was a mixture of pilchards, spanish sardines, and these other bait that looked like small goggle eyes(not sure of the actual name). I didn't see any mullet in the water but they must've been around because when I first got there I saw a few dead/half dead ones on the floor next to a bucket.

I was in the Jupiter area last night there were mullet around just small pods and you had to work em pretty hard just to get enough. Definitely not a run just seems like they are all staging and getting ready to go when the ol biological clock chimes.
