Questions on Vero in July.

Post by Ditchrat »

Hello all. I have been reading this forum for a few months gathering bits and pieces of information on the area for my next excursion to Fl. Basically my in laws have a second home in vero and my wife and I have stared vacationing with our kids at their home. This year we are visiting in the summer to see if I can handle the heat for a possible relocation.

So I have been able to do some fishing. last year was my first trip so I was unprepared to take advantage of opportunities. This year will be 18 days of family fun and fishing.

It was suggested that posting is important to remain active on the forums roster, so here is my start.

My first question will be very general. I'm not the kind of guy who like spoon feeding or being spoon fed. So that being said can I get some ideas as to what or where I should be researching for information so I can educate myself.

Here are a couple question I was wondering about.
Alligators, how much concern is there. I have fished in Feb and March, but was told they are much more active in the heat and should be avoided much more so. Also when does there become enough salt for the to not really be common.

on the same note as a striper fisherman wading as night is common place. Bulls are few and far between. I wading at night something that is to be avoided. I am not particularly scared of sharks I just know that certain behaviors and situations should be avoided.

I know from experience that fish running and being available are much different. So what exactly should I expect in July. I'd like to chase some snook in the surf. Other then that I will happily take what I can get from the inlets and back bays.

So I'm not just poaching information. If you want info on NY salmon and steelhead, I fish there about 4 days a month for the last 30 years, or cape cod stripers.

You can fish the FT. pierce inlet. See the rocks if you are bottom fishing with shrimp, there should be some bait for you to net too. Use those instead if you can find them. There should be a good amount of mangrove snapper around close to structure in that time frame. Check out the archives for fishing report in that area.

As for wade fishing, I never tried it..
I "heard" that you can fish the FT Pierce park for snook, trout, and reds in the morning. Oh fishing in the morning is the best for the summer time. Mid day is too hot and the fish get lazy.
