I did a little yesterday.
I only have 2 large surf rods 12' i think they are rated at 40lb test. I know this isnt the best for shark but i figure i should get me started. 1 has a okuma axeon reel it holds i think 400+ yards of the 40lb powerpro. should i be able to cast to where the medium sharks are and what is best for bait.

that sized gear should be ok for black tips, spinners, nurse and smaller lemons but a good sized bull, tiger, hammer or big lemon will be to much. not saying people havent caught big sharks on smaller gear but it just doesnt normaly happen. i lived in melbourne for 2yrs and did shark fish there. you want to try melbourne beach to the inlet. north of melbourne beach is just a little to rocky untill you go a little farther north but the farther north you go the shallower it is. there are a lot of sharks in that area. as far as casting you dont need to cast real far. you need to try and get your baits in the troughs. id say if you can get your bait into the second trough you'd be fine but the third would be money. dont forget, fresh bait is the key. even a big live blue runner would be a great bait for a tip or spinner. good luck

From what i have read night time is best. Should i go out at dusk or really early in the morning.
If anyone in the area is going out anytime soon i would like to tag along just to watch and learn.
please let me know
